Yes, you're right, I hadn't noticed that but did see that the galaxy clues are in order in terms of their solutions and place ('orientation') in the grid.

The preamble says that 4- and 9-letter clues are in alphabetical order of their solutions, but no such indication is given for the galaxy clues. What does "in order" mean in the last post please? I have all the grid which can be filled from the 4s and 9s, but can make no headway at all with the galaxies.

The galaxies are self-contained i.e. no crossing letters from others, and all bar one are placed around the edge of the grid. So, as quisling has said, the answer to the first galaxy clue is placed in the west of the grid and the rest follow in order in a clockwise direction. Hope that helps.

I don't think that's quite right - yes (all but one of) the galaxies follow in a clockwise direction, but the first is not in the west of the grid. Quisling gave the right placing in post #20. The placings are determined by the 4-letter clue that starts "Going west..." Positioning the answer to that clue appropriately determines all others.

After finding the preamble pretty impenetrable to start with, in the end I really enjoyed this one.

In a previous post I mentioned that the Going west clue is the prefix - agreed? The wordplay in my answer to this clue misses the third letter, or the second backwards. If no-one else has this problem, the word I have is obviously incorrect.

Yes, that's the prefix. The wordplay (all going west) is 2 letters inside 1 + 1.

...thinking about it, I wonder if you're using a 2-letter abbreviation for Ohio? You shouldn't.

I have a filled grid and all looks good except two of the interior answers go counterclockwise; sigh...

Buzzb, you may find everyone else has run up against the same issue. I think it’s unavoidable. That, together with the unindicated reversal in the “Sumatra nature” clue, leads me to wonder whether it has been properly tested and edited. But I very rarely look at Crossword Centre puzzles, so I don’t know how usual that would be.

I could be quite wrong, of course
