Mollusc caught in antipodean tree (5).
There appear to be two possibilities for the third letter, neither of which I can parse. Any help welcomed.

There are two antipodean trees that fit, but only one that is a homophone of a mollusc. I believe you need to NZ tree not the Aussie one.
According to Chambers the shell of the mollusc has “magical properties”.

I hate crosswords that rely on a specific reference book!
I don't have the relevant ODQ and I've had no luck with Google.
