Many thanks to Kcit for a thoroughly enjoyable EV. Not just any old order but a Royal one to boot!

I'm having a bit of trouble with this. Firstly, I am fairly sure I have identified 1d (which was a long way from where I originally thought it was). Secondly, having located theDutch city and, I believe, the Hungarian chemist correctly, I find I have a surplus down clue.

Something is awry but I can't figure it out! Am I missing something?

Hard to know. Which is your surplus down clue?

A most enjoyable puzzle which wasn't as daunting as a first reading of the preamble suggested. Piffleworthy, could you please confirm you have the 'daddies' of answers at 1 down and say what your extra clue is?

Hello, sorry for delayed reply, I had to go out.

My 1d is 'secretary,brusque, cut off fathers'. In the grid I count 24 down lights. I also count 24 clues from 'secretary' to the end. However, there's an extra between 'Omani...' and 'Subtly...' so one of those 24 is redundant, unless the clue list loops, which I discount because there's no room!

I am sure as I said that I've taken a wrong turn, so any helpful hint would be very much appreciated.

Hi Piffleworthy. There is no extra between Omani and Subtly. If you have one then you have gone astray.

Thank you ja. I see where I have gone wrong. I had a different latin word top right which i had convinced myself was correct.

A lovely puzzle. I discovered the ORDER on the Internet. I had never come across it before so I tried it out on a certain person: Vile, squat, decrepit, fat, orange, American, blubbery self-promoting... Now who could that possibly refer to? Or am I being a tad controversial here?
