Never wandering, I see - or always wandering? N?M?D?C

I have the answer and can see how the last 2 letters are "I see", but how do the first 5 come from "never wandering"?

Cancel that, I hadn't looked up all the definitions of "wandering" - I see now that "never wandering" is 2,3

Great puzzle. In one case I got the modified answer but can't parse the unmodified version. Can't say which clue for fear of spoiler (i.e. spoiler as to which answers need modifying) but am hoping someone else might have had the same problem.
