All the votes are in and it's been a close run race. For a long time we had the rookie Witless in the lead but, late in the game two old stagers began to surge forward and we finished with a tie between Geeker and Tyke.

It's up to me, therefore, and I go for the beautifully crafted:

Classic set Miles played (8)

This might leave tyke and witless, kind of blue but, so what.

I am not a lover of much that passes for comedy. I find it predictable and contrived; It was said of Laurel and Hardy that while most comedy was ordinary people trying to be funny, they were funny people trying to be ordinary. Like all my choices, they were TIMELESS.

So, get yourself a Lyon’s Maid tub and wooden spoon, an extra large Kia-Ora and a big bag of Butterkist.

The greatest line in cinema history:

While Hollywood was giving us the unfunny Abbot and Costello and The Three Stooges, another genius was trying to be normal:

Now for the surreal. A famous sketch from the 50s written by James Casey’s father, Jimmy James :

Milligan logic at its best.

Peter Cook wrote this while still a teenager:

Congrats Geeker. Thanks Swarb - really enjoyed the clips (we share more than an interest in music!) although the Peter Cook is ‘unavailable' to me (must not be PC😁). Timeless comedy!

Thanks to Tyke, Amej, Geeker and Witless for votes - and welcome Witless.

How ancient does 1982 look?

aristo

This 1982 version is a recreation of a famous 1950s sketch by Casey's father, the great Jimmy James.
