I thought costume was DRESS - clearly not.

Could someone please give me a nudge?

Druh6sm, you've picked a slightly tricky one! Singer is the definition, and it's not a person, it's the fairly clommon (in crosswords) 'feathered friend'. A four letter strong emotion goes inside a four-letter word for... costume, outfit, etc (It's more commonly an everyday verb.)

11a is a straight anagram, 6d is an anagram with two single letters

Druh6sm, thanks. Chambers gives Heat, vehemence, passion, both are strong emotions, so I think the clue is fair.
