Re 26a - I can see how the soap could be relevant but feel that it makes more sense if it refers to the creation.

I think it’s doing a sort of double duty. The soap gives the first word, while the creation provides the surface.

I don't have any problem with 26a because of the ? at the end. The answer is a trendy dining option right now and the two words work just about. And it is a thing having appeared at 1970s buffets on many occasions.

And yes, as someone currently writing this I Southern Italy , it is said when you arrive and when you leave so it works.

Personally I have never heard the expression in 11a used either. But that's probably just me.

I've only heard 11a in the context of American Football, I think.

It probably arose in the context of sports, although basketball I think originally. It is frequently used outside of sports now though, at least in the US.
