Of course I have ‘stick it out’ but where does the ‘it’ come from?

Tick (credit) in sit out (decline to participate in)

'It' is inside, is part of ' Sit out', decine to participate (with Tick = acquiring credit).

Jono, Malone, many thanks guys. I had ‘refuse to participate in’ as ‘stick out’ then obviously it didn’t work. I struggle with the new regime - the anagrams, deletions, the use of any letter in an acronym as an abbreviation, the street slang, the dodgy synonyms, etc …
