StrangelyBrown, glad those helped. I think I knew Caliban only very vaguely, and probably from previous crosswords. He's a monstrous character in Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. I wasn't too keen on anagramming only part of a word, but I've seen that before - most recently, in this week's Enigmatic Variations.
