A great puzzle that has certainly stretched my abilities. I think I have the author, the work the highlight but am completely at loss at how or way to change the three words in 42a. Can someone give me a nudge without spoiling for others? Am I l looking for a character or her role, or am I missing completely?

I am in a similar position to Macavity in that I have the author and the work. I think I know how to complete 1 across, but no idea about 42 across. I believe 1 across is 3, 12. Is 42 across 9, 2, 6?

Sorry, for 42 across, I meant to say 9, 2, 4.

42a turns from 4,5,6 to 8,7, I believe
