As a hint, you might think of a 5-letter variety of the creature you have. A famous character in lit.

Thanks - I can only see my creature once - I will try to fill the grid tonight.

Thanks - I suppose you mean Robin. I can only think of Robin Goodfellow or Christopher Robin. Not much good at literature.

It is not Robin. You mentioned recently (on the chess thread) that you had played on Merseyside. You dont need the character, but it might help. He shares his name with a Merseyside chess club, where you might have played.

Thanks, Grunger. The featuring twice relates to different guises - ie Malone and Pedanticora Franticus....

Thanks for the cryptic hint. If you mean look for Scottish and French words, I can see some of them.

I only have 4 extra letters - ROTE - Routes?

Just 3 clues to solve. Will press on.

As you are a Lancs cricket fan, you will have seen that the key character in the work is playing against you for Kent today.

Thanks - I have looked at the scorecard. It must be Dawkins, the Artful Dodger. So Oliver Twist is involved, but I cant see the Lullaby connection.

Grunger, thanks - but I think I've probably hindered rather than helped! There was no English and French involved, I was just nudging you towards there being a 'technical', official name too. And I'm now confused, I don't understand the reference to a book...
