Hello everyone. Please can anyone help with these?

8a: Look closely to develop spending with commoners of a sort? (4,5)

I have P - E - / G - O - P. It looks like PEER GROUP. I understand PEER (look closely), but how the second part work?

42d: Former parliamentary law agreement underpinning masses in uprising (5,3)

I have - T - M - / A - T. STAMP ACT? If so, why?

47d: Profound backing indeed surrounds instrument on display? (6)

I have - P - E - O. It looks like SPEEDO. I can work out the construction - DEEP (reversed) inside SO (indeed) - but what in the clue means SPEEDO?

Thanks SB. I'm relieved to find that I'm not the only one who struggled with those.

Re 14a, SHOWER is pronounced to rhyme with MOWER. Thus, MOONER = BEHIND SHOWER - in other words, someone who displays their derrière.

Thanks both, wouldn’t have spotted that ‘shower’ was ‘one who shows’.

Two answers I'm trying to establish which are alongside each other in the puzzle, and these are:-
19 Across - "Piece of pork fat on crust in eg foil container?
I think the answer is SCABBARD but I can't parse it.
20 Across - "Cycling imp shows wit " (6) I have -S-R -I
I can't see this at all.
