I would also appreciate some help in understanding "from" and "pointless" in 5dn, and "quite" in 13 dn.

5d: "from" is letters 5 and 6 of the solution. "Pointless fighting" is letters 7 and 8 - a "point" removed from "fighting".

13d parses 3, 2, 5 where 3 is "quite", 2 "say" and 5 "riverbank creature climbs"

Thanks for that geeker.
I can't see how "from" gives OF but I expect someone will enlighten me.

Needed a lot of help from forum to complete this. It is more than a slight feeling of intimidation that the name inspires with me . I very rarely manage to finish. Have to acknowledge the brilliance of some clues as well as the sometimes complex parsing.
FOI 14a
LOI 3d
COD 20a so clever and of course as a cricket fan I was misdirected !
Although it is an achievement for me to finish a Vlad there is no wow factor — needed too much help from you guys.

Hi, please can someone explain the parsing of 4d. I see the definition and some money, but I don’t get the rest of it.

It is probably a coincidence but the "shelter" part of 23ac is also the name of the actor who played M for many years. Great crossword.
