A couple of short ones I'm having difficulty in parsing:

28A Kicked rat escaping from trap. (4)

T _ E _

I think this must be TOED (= kicked) but I don't understand the rest of the clue

25D Raptor dropping bone for raven. (4)

_ R _ Y

I'm guessing this is PREY (= osprey without the os for bone) but what's the connection with raven?

Any suggestions welcome!

escaping from trap - spoken = TOAD

raven= "To prey rapaciously (on or upon)"

28a. Yes, TOED sounds like "toad". "Escaping from the trap" = "from the mouth", so, a homophone.
25d. Chambers has "To prey rapaciously (on or upon)" as a definition of "raven".

Thank you buddy, mattrom. I wasn't aware of that definition of 'raven' but admit that I should have checked Chambers more assiduously.

The 'escaping from trap' = sounds like; rat = toad = toed one, however, contains just too many thin connections for my liking!
