I guess most have finished already but may I get a hint on 28 and 38, please? TIA

28 is a french word, 38 contains a misprint. I hope that's not too obscure.

A typically elegant and precise offering from Chalicea but, as the title makes clear, not her characteristic line for the endgame.

I'm really struggling with the endgame and think I must have gone wrong with at least one of the misprints. In alphabetical order the 'correct' letters I have at the moment are C I I M N R S U (3 from across clues and 5 from down ones). I suspect at least one of the perimeter inscriptions might not in English. A nudge in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Alwayspuzzled, you're correct about one inscription not being in English - but you won't have to travel very far to find it. I didn't bother with all the misprints, so I can't help with that bit.

AP try googling the inscription you have in English with the (rather misleading) statement that Harold Wilson made following devaluation. That may also help with the third inscription.

Thank you for your prompt help Malone, jack Aubrey and dsc. That will give me something to work on when I get back in later. I knew that at least one of the letters I had was wrong.

Thanks again. I should have realised what was going on with the last 4 corrected letters and the very helpful title of the puzzle. As always I complicated things for myself by trying to read the corrected letters as one word.
