I imagined that was it. Quite a trappy clue, and I needed the message and Chambers to confirm the wordplay

A very elegantly composed puzzle.

Thanks, Awinger.

If it's not straying into theme territory, can I just check that, post changes, we're left with the name of a female journalist?

Thanks to Awinger for an enjoyable and, after last week, a thankfully more accessible puzzle.

I actually went to see a production of this in the West End a few years ago. Unfortunately, one of the female characters delivered all her lines in the style of Lady Bracknell's "a handbag"! It was really off-putting and incredibly annoying after a while - a very short while.

This was a really enjoyable puzzle after last week's - not to mention 4878 whose solution appeared this weekend and I still don't understand. Thank you, Awinger.
The puzzle also brought back memories of a stage production for me, in my case directed by Bernard Miles at the Mermaid Theatre in 1973 which I found deeply affecting.

A nice puzzle, cleverly constructed.

Thanks, Awinger!

Quite enjoying this after the brain-shredding exercises of the last two Listeners.

I almost have a full grid but cannot make anything sensible out of 23ac "Volcano lava erupting, covering previous flow (6)".

Assuming my crossers are correct, which I'm reasonably confident of, Chambers gives me two possibilities for the entry but neither seems to fit the clue.

As ever, a gentle prod in the right direction would be highly appreciated!

Hi Piffleworthy,

23a - is an actual volcano so not in Chambers. Part anagram of 4 letter word in clue minus extra letter goes around old spelling of 3 letter word meaning 'flow' (as a tap might, say)
