Jono I am replying to you because I can’t see anywhere how to post my own question - the only option seems to be to Reply to a post, you are clearly well versed so I’m troubling you ( sorry!)
I’m validated, logged in, and in the Times Jumbo Cryptic 1745 but I can’t for the life of me see how to post a question…..

So it would appear that “Reply to a Post” is actually the way to ask a question, so here goes:

I can see that the answer is “scatterbrain” and that the b for bishop has been dropped into “terrain” (country). But where has scat come from?

To post a question all you have to do is go to any other post in the thread and click on "reply to this post". It doesn't matter which post you choose.

It won't show that you're replying to a specific poster but rather just present you with an empty box where you can type in any questions you may have.

For example, if you click on the "reply to this post" for this specific entry, it won't say "in answer to Brendan" or anything like that but rather just give you a clear place to type your comments.

I could be way off here but if you remove or "drop" the B(ishop), your left with....

SCATTER RAIN where "scatter" is an anagram indicator and "rain" is "Iran" so 'country'.

Wow! Change 'I could be way off here' to 'Bren, you were not even in the same universe'!!
