2 is what June is with a letter removed. you shouldn't be needing a hint for 9 after that

Arib - the definition for 17a is 'household name'.
There's a rhyming pair at 12 and 21.

Arib @20 "household name" rather than just "household" is the definition, I think? Darla @12 as it's over half, I reckon "for the most part" is fair.

Thanks clarkgwent. Made sense once I saw the importance of 'maybe'. I think I have 9 but not sure of the parsing of the second word.

Thanks Sealion and Phil, I had a different, more specific, form of contest for 12.It fitted the crossers and makes as much sense as the correct answer but doesn’t rhyme with 21. Perhaps not the greatest of clues

12a. E.g. a quiz where, if you get an answer wrong, you have a #####. So losers are “roaring”.

Hi all. Enjoyed that. CODs were 3D, 14D and 15A, all of which I thought were very entertaining.
Happy Sunday!

Another second word is equally valid for 12A - but it wouldn’t then rhyme with 21A!
