Spent most of my time on 1d.

Not, in my view, a good clue and it's not as if he was stuck for choice. One plural, given where i live, appealed greatly.

I also struggled with 1d. And am still unsure of the first word of 11; crossers give a high-probability guess but then I don't understand the solution.

Yes 1d was my LOI. Other than that, not too bad. Under 40 minutes. Some clever anagrams and nice surfaces and I managed to parse them all. Happy Sunday everyone. Can England win the Test and the series? Going to be close I suspect.

11 is only one word geeker. Which clue did you mean?

If you meant 12 think of the phrase roaring *****.

Most enjoyable. COD 7d.
1d was LOI and raised a smile when the penny dropped.

I meant 12. I don't know the game or rules, but don't understand why the loser would be more ***** than the winner.

Re 12a. I was thinking that "roaring" could mean "shouting" if that fits with the rules of the contest.
Perhaps Bowergirl's suggestion is better.
