I was going to have a moan about the first word of the clue to 4d, but Chambers gives it as an obsolete alternative to 'alternate'. However, I'm still not happy with it.

Fed has been setting daily cryptic for Gdn for a while now. He is aka Bluth in Indy. If you liked this you may look up #12109 there earlier this week.

Enjoyed all of the misdirection. Makes the puzzle a challenge without being arcane. COD 13 - I really liked “what gets barrister going” for first letter. I haven’t seen that before.

Bluth / Fed is the witty Dave Gorman! I'd forgotten.
Always worth checking out in the Indy, where he appears more often.

A great puzzle with some ingenious wordplay. After some rapid progress, I got stuck on the NW corner, and only solved the LOI of 10a with some guesswork.

Morning all, finding this quite tough. I have 22d but cannot for the life of me parse the shock part. Am I being dim?

Insert a 2 letter Latin word often used to mean "on" into a 5 letter word for "shock". Et voila!
