That all worked out nicely. A good puzzle.

Finding this very difficult, and still haven’t worked out the (presumably) 4 different ways to enter the answers. A nudge with a couple of the normal entries might help me get started.
Both clues contain an extra letter.
7. Means of picking up stub when caught by inspector (5)
37. Tobacconist’s particle on the counter inspired frenzies (5) I am thinking the P at the beginning of particle is the extra letter

For 38 I have a 2 word anagram of hit song (2,5) but can’t work out how it relates to the clue.

7: extra letter T, it's an old military acronym i hadn't heard of but comes together very logically
37: extra letter P, a somewhat odd spelling of something a tobacconist might sell
38: extra letter P, definition last three words

Many thanks to Poat for a testing and thoroughly enjoyable workout. The PDM - actually PDMs - first to get the creator then another to get the likely works then still others as the meaning of the works in relation to each of the groups became clear, were very satisfying.

Any help on 26 would be much appreciated- I'm assuming it involves an anag of the last word but I could be wrong

Definition is the first four words with one losing a letter. You are right about the anagram. The rest of the anagram fodder is given by the fifth word.

It does indeed. Add a single letter abbreviation of “are” to the end of it. The removed extra letter leaves an Aussie slang word

Yes I think it is an anagram of last word plus common abbreviation for are. The extra letter could be A , from ananas.

Thank you JA, quisling and kerg- a quick dive into Collin's does indeed yield this!
