As ever, at first sight the puzzle looks daunting and the clues seem to have so many words. But things fall into place once one or two hunches bear fruit, and this was a clever and very enjoyable puzzle without too much brain ache and bewilderment - a relief after some recent ones. Back for more torment next week!!

Enjoyable puzzle made even more so by the straightforward and unambiguous end game - no grid staring required this week for me. Once the PDM arrives on the entry method of the cross-stitches is sussed (and that too, for once, was pretty quick for me), it all fell into place quite neatly.

It's true that looking in the sky would not have helped.

Great fun and very neatly constructed. Many thanks to Alchemist. I have to confess that I twigged the cleverness of the entry method only after I had a complete grid. How dense can you be?

Nice puzzle: clever, sufficiently challenging without being a struggle. It seems a while since we had one of this level.

Helped pass the time on a flight down from Glasgow. A treat not to have to do any late night staring…

Just to add that, for me, one of the best things about this puzzle was that it was constructed without archaisms or dialect words and the clues did not rely on uncommon definitions. I could do the whole thing without the usual searching through the dictionary or having to use the internet.
