Good fun but I was going skelly-eyed following the order of the lights!

Not so quick for me .. a bit more than three hours. Nicely topical, but very annoyed with self for not realising the theme for so long!

I spotted the theme quite quickly but am stuck on two,

17DSW) Fill in uneven sash window ledges (5), returns an extra F

24DSE) Milk not the same in easy mashed potatoes, old Scots style (4), returns an extra E.

Any hints and tips welcome.

“Fill” is “fill” and uneven sash is the odd letters of sash

“Milk not the same” is M (milk without ilk) and mashed is an anagram indicator

Thanks Candledave, it's frustrating to have a grid filled in all bar two letters!

Definitely an easier ride than it first looked. I may be in a vanishingly small minority for whom the products of the extra letters had absolutely zero resonance but the generous filling of the unclued entries meant that the completion and the necessary changes were very clear.

Certainly a long way from its roots. Just a cash cow these days - sadly
