Tyke, I crossed Blackfriars Bridge today where the Fleet meets the Thames… as you say it is now unfortunately confined to a Victorian sewer and is but a trickle.

Farringdon Street is basically the route of the Fleet and where it crosses over Fleet Street / Ludgate there used to be a bridge. Even today you can picture where the bridge was.
In Roman times the Fleet was navigable by ship.
