Good evening,

I am stuck. Really stuck.

20a - Old car of a certain hue with lots of indentations? (8)

*****R**

26a - Number coming to a place like Oxford must show perseverance (8)

****C*T*

Where do you begin with these clues?

The definitions are at the end of both

20 - word for “old car” and then a hue

26 - “number” a “ place like Oxford”

20 starts with a slang term for an old car - not "banger", but similar critical term!
26 what sort of place is Oxford an example of? Not university, though,

Thank you both. I have never heard of that word for an old car.

Perseverance…so easy when it’s written down.

I am embarrassed to say I don’t understand (and cannot figure out) 7d, despite having some letters.

7d - Soldiers, excellent, in danger (6)

*E*A*E

I have tried TAR and RE for soldiers, without success.

It parses 3,3, with another term for "other ranks" in the army, followed by a slangy term for "excellent".

Close - TAR is only ever used for a sailor.

One of the many words for soldiers is MEN
