What an absolute stinker! A heavy reliance on deletions and proper nouns, several dubious definitions, and the highest number of obscurities I've ever found in a single crossword.

Please can anyone help with these two?

36a: One way to make strong beer be distinctive (5,3)
I have ??A?D / ?U? It looks like STAND OUT (= be distinctive), and contains the letters of STOUT (= strong beer), but how does the rest of it work?

25d: Having more of these, you'll want more works on the radio (5)
I have N?E?? The final letter is the first letter of 36a, so if I'm right about STAND OUT it would be N?E?S. I can't even make sense of the clue, let alone attempt to find the answer!

STOUT can be made up of ST AND OUT

If you have more NEEDS you want more and it sounds like KNEADS

If the setter reads this, a kind hint.

In setting 3d, you completely alienate the younger solver. I am 56 and that song was written some 63 years before I was born and was apparently a pub piano favourite until I was about 5. Not surprising that I'd never heard of it. Please think about the under 70' s when you set.
