I have pondered this clue for some time with no success. Please help.

Put away number going back around me to escape. (7)

This can be parsed in many ways but there is no clarity as to the straight definition. Hence difficulty coming up with an answer.

I think it might be EVASION but I don’t love the clue

Put away is SAVE and number is NO. Both reversed and then put I in the middle for “me”

Escape is definition
