Anyone else seeing double when it comes to the unclued lights?

I think I’ve now worked out why this might be the case.

No, Jono, and I don't get what you're driving at.
I found this puzzle rather sub-entry-level, solving all the clues in numerical order and needing a dictionary to check just two of them.

A rather poor effort quite frankly - I expect better from the Spectator.

Like will37, I thought this was a gentle stroll, rather than a three-pipe problem. Theme was given away a bit too freely, in my view.

Nevertheless, 41A Film a story with new section (6) has me stumped. Perhaps I have a wrong unclued at 23D - is that the 'seeing double' you refer to?

A + 3-letter "story" + N(ew) S(ection).

Not sure what jono is after either; the relevant Wiki page left no ambiguity for me,

Too many hiddens, anagrams and homophones for this to be anything other than a walk in the park

jono, assuming that no unclueds are repeated, there's only one award-winner that fits at 23d, once 1a is filled in.

1a has won the award twice, but it seems unlikely it would be used twice in the puzzle.

Buddy, the problem as I see it is that there is only one candidate for 23d given our agreement on 41a. This means that it must be duplicated at 1a because nothing else can fit (I think!). The preamble doesn't exclude a duplication, so I think I'll go with it.

PW, sounds like you did what I did, but there is another option for 23d that avoids the duplication
