Chambers gives bed as "Conjugal union, sexual intercourse, the marriage-bed, matrimonial rights and duties" so LABOUR (slave) + Earl in BED

Hi,

I think it's...

Union = BED (as a verb) goes around ('to defend')

Slave = LABOUR

Earl = E

Definition in Chambers is "to assail verbally"

Thanks. Is E an abbreviation for EARL? I've never come across that before.

E for earl is the very first abbreviation shown, under E, in Chambers.
