For those that can recall the discussion on puzzle 2701 where we felt that there were two potential valid answers for the 20a/39a combination, the answer given today is GAIT / TAIG which is what had gone with.

Cockie, I'd love it to be the start of a new regime - but I expect it'll just be more of the 'maybe a decent puzzle every third week or so' stuff! Still, I'll keep on hoping...

Regrettably I'll health caused Pabulum to step back from being a regular on Doc's team to an occasional contributor. He said at the time he was keen to get his total of Spectator puzzles up to 300, which he has easily passed now. But I think we'll just have to be grateful when his puzzles appear at irregular intervals.

Asking solvers to shade the clued light containing the three letters was a delightful touch!
