Even though most of the thematic entries were familiar to me, it took a while to match them to the correct superfluous word. An engrossing challenge.

That was on the tough side for me - most EVs are for that matter - but everything came together nicely in the end. As always I learned something from it and the research yielded some pleasing visual results. Thank you Kruger.

Almost but not quite there for me, got the grid filled, matched 5 of the 7 thematic answers to extra words then ground to a halt. Not sure about how to ask for help without spoiling puzzle for others . The two unmatched thematic answers I have left begin sic and law. I know the answers but can’t match either to an extra words, or work out how to use other letters to get to a theme beyond the obvious that it is an anagram. If anyone can give me a nudge I’d appreciate it.

Very enjoyable puzzle getting the grid filled just struggling with end game

There are 8 thematic answers, not 7. The one beginning LAW is the "unmatched" one. For the others, I was successful in googling "famous XXXs by" thematic answer, where XXX is what the themers are known for.

Catching up after an amazing archaeological trip to various islands in the Orkney archipelago. Gridfill went smoothly although I misled myself at the outset by taking an alternative meaning for the first thematic and trying (and obviously failing) to make others fit into the same set. Once I climbed back out of the self-induced rabbit hole it all fell into place. Thanks to Kruger.
