8d - looks like STEERING - E E Inside STRING

19d - a MARGAY is a type of cat if your final A is wrong

26a - could be TOGAS with "bought" bring GOT reversed/on the way back followed by AS for "when"

Thank you, so much, Brendan, the mist has cleared, it is of course MARGAY - I had PHALANX for the bottom crosser rather than PHARYNX. You never fail to amaze me.
