Fair enough, Gitto! Did you ever find a satisfactory source confirming the double letter in the middle of the Christian name? I think it’s just an error

Quisling, I searched for a long time but the spelling never seemed to change - so I too think that it is an unfortunate error - BUT, I bet it isn't!

Just chipping in to say that having had an Inquisitor puzzle published, there is a very high standard of test-solving and proofreading – four testers including the crossword editor himself. And Serpent is a very experienced setter. Which makes this even more mystifying... if the odd spelling of the name is an error, then it somehow got past that process – if it isn't, then I'm at a loss to explain it so far...

That’s interesting, robt. I’m surprised. I always felt John Henderson had rather a light touch compared, say, with Listener editors. I always suggest compiler error with great reluctance, because I know that usually it’s the solver’s failure. So we’ll see if any other explanation turns up

Mystery solved. Per the solution published today, an error did indeed slip through and required a correction! Which just goes to show that nobody's perfect...
