Well folks, here we go again. I need help please with 2 clues to get me started today. Each clue will have a redundant word, and I have no letters yet.
Family flying economy over Rhodesia Island on endless trip East (9)
Stanza a country metalworker compiled crosswords for Spooner (10)

Family flying is a family of birds. Economy is extra word. Over is o. Rhodes island is RI. On is o. Olida is endless trip/ holiday. East is E.

Not sure about stanza clue except stanza is definition.

I have full grid but would welcome hints to understand significance of extra words. No idea what’s going on yet.

Stanza clue if changed to suit Spooner would sound like “ tinner set.”

I only understood the significance of the extra words in hindsight, and they're really not necessary to complete the puzzle. My way in was to look for two cells to change to get the names, and then Google, Probably something every British schoolboy learns while eating his Weetabix, but completely unknown to this American.

Dismal extra, With / a / German one letter abbreviations, + girl band from the 60's - R (think Phil Spector).

My way in to filling grid was to tentatively put in where 10 letter words intersect and same with 4 letter words.12th column was first one in.

Very exciting to discover theme is what is on tv this afternoon! I was googling one of the names anyway to see if he is playing today! Still none the wiser re significance of random extra words.
