This is strange. I went to print off the prize puzzle on the computer attached to a printer and found the jumbo Maskarade one, so didn't bother. When I saw this thread I went to the crossword site on this computer and found the Kite puzzle, so I went back to the other computer and found that the Prize now links to the Kite puzzle - only 5 minutes later!

Seems like a bit of a Guardian cock-up Chris, but we’re used to those.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they changed the numbering of one of the puzzles…

It has now gone back to the Maskarade one.

btw the last few days I've had trouble with the Guardian site "not responding" for some time when I go to it. Has anyone else encountered this?

I hadn't Chris until this morning where I've had the 'Close app' or 'wait' option appear a few times while checking the staus of the puuzles on my phone.

The paper has now come and it has the Maskarade puzzle.

Drat! The Kite puzzle has now been removed and will appear on 19th May instead -----> https://www.theguardian.com/info/2025/apr/19/removed-crossword

I didn't get chance to see it and, as I always side-step Maskarade's, I don't have one to do today. Ah well.......

The Grauniad has even got that wrong - it's 19th April today, not May!

Well I can't find the Kite puzzle at all (I access through Guardian online edition) and like others I always pass on the Maskarade special ....

On the Android app and Kite well and truly present still. I've reached an impasse about two thirds in where I have a few ideas for answers but no idea of the parsing. Quite tough in fact. Most of the empty clues are in the SE. The hints for 8d here have left me more confused. I expected the three letter word not to have the letter in the middle that it does but I think my 17a is right even though I can't parse the last four letters.

"The puzzle by Kite was published in error on 19 May, 2025.... Kite’s puzzle will appear on 17 May" - they can't even get today's date right.

I know I make lots of typos but, in my defence, I most often write them whilst doing other puzzles or watching YouTube - or both 😀

As someone who's worked as a proofreader for insurance companies, the MOD and magazine printers, I seriously am aghast at the number of errors we encounter, do they have no editors in the crossword section of the Guardian?
