Thanks to all who entered this week’s challenge. Hopefully some fun was had.

A tough one to judge and if you had a favourite clue that I’ve not mentioned below, please feel free to give it some love and appreciation!

A few clues suffered from indirect anagrams or cryptic grammar that didn’t quite work, but nevertheless had strong concepts, so would be easily redeemable.
Plenty of anagrams to chose from with Chris@2, Buddy@11 and Raffles@31 strong contenders.
Amej@13 attempted some chemistry which is always brave, but in this instance possibly beyond most solvers.

My favourites were…

Aristo@10’s very concise construction.
Buddy@27’s tea based concoction.
Wil@29’s Spoonerism which works well I think.
Paul@40‘s river excursion which reminded me that (confusingly) D can be Germany but not German and E is ok for English but not England.

The winner is Wil@29…

Spooner’s joke cheese goes off with a bang (9)

Congratulations Wil, here are your prizes…

The plot…

The tea…

The explosive stuff…

Cheers all,

Congrats wil, thanks jono.

Here's another case where a homophone has the American baffled. We pronounce the cheese GOO-duh but I guess it is more like GOW-dah across the ocean? I have still not quite gotten used to the fact that apparently RHEA and REAR sound alike, and now this....

Congrats wil and thanks jono.

I must confess that I'm a bit relieved - I liked mine and thought that it might be picked, but I don't like judging Clueless!

Buddy - yes can be quite a challenge. Reminds me of the story appearing in this weeks Times. There was a great (grate) cheese robbery and the puns came thick and fast. so I'll share them with you in a composite plagiarised piece;

The thieves Briesed in and out. They needed to tread Caerphilly. They got a whey with it. Gorgon Bennett! ) Stop, please! I Camembert it!
(I won't Cheddar tear....)
