FOI 9a; LOI 5d!

I’d never heard of 5d or 19d. The hints you guys gave to the themed rows were hugely helpful to finish the last couple off…

I'd never heard of 19, but luckily the parsing was very clear. Still googled to confirm.

Very enjoyable and got me to look up all sorts of things, emperors, Indian polymaths, old homelands…I cant parse 17a other than the answer from the start and Im still stuck on 5d…assuming rows 5 and 11 bear the same word Im missing letters 1 and 3 of 5down and no words are coming up …and Ive searched high and low…

Ive now got the third letter, from the theme …doh !
