Yep, I get the wordplay in 23d just not sure what part "catch a" play in the parsing. But, again, I see the theme in this clue which is actually the album that is 50 years old this month:-)

Hi All

for once I managed to complete a Prize relatively quickly, so it must be on the easy side. I couldn't spot the theme, but coming here I can see the connection between the 3 people mention in the clues, but what is the anniversary? If it is the founding of the thing that all 3 were in then surely it's a 60th anniversary? Or is it something else?

The "catch a fire" reference is a somewhat clumsy attempt to include the theme. Google that phrase

I see that the S makes it a noun but I'm just going by what Chambers says and that it does not agree with "the chosen ones" as a definition.

HI Minty,

It's the anniversary of the album mentioned in 23d - and what a great album it is too:-)

Brendan

When I was at uni, courses that you chose as opposed to compulsory were given this name.

Ok, thanks buzzybee & brendan - I get the anniversary now

brendan - if you are still wondering about "catch" in the parsing of 23d, Yes it is superfluous but it is also the introduction to (c)atch that is missing from the fiddler.

Thanks Minty, I see it:-)

Quite an achievement that Brockwell managed to include every track on the album in the clues:-)

Thanks to all for thematic discussion.
My excuse is that I'd never heard of the album in question...rarely listen to that genre of music and am practically ignorant of it.

Well done by Brockwell.
