I'd appreciate a hint only, please, for my last in -7d. I have all the crossers.

see standfirst (4,4)

I think that "see standfirst" simply means look at the instructions - ie, it is not a clue, just two theme words.

Ah! "See preamble", in other words. Thanks, BB.

All in except 7D. Unless I have messed up, for the second half of 7D, I have two possible options (without giving too much away I hope) - a specific example of the theme, and a general type of the theme. Which to prefer?

A hint for the first half of 7D would be welcomed.

Thanks Buzzybee. I had rejected that but I guess it is 'thematically related' as in the preamble. Speciifc or general for second part of 7D?

I believe that the second part of 7d is similar to the first.

I am going with the same hunch about 7d, Buzzybee. But it is also possible to use the crossers to give a notable (Pacific) instance of the theme and a generic type - which would be consistent with the approach shown in the other thematic elements produced by the “ignored letters”. You pays your money….

Maybe so JA. But I am swayed by the use of the phrase "thematically related" - the two entries as per my suggestion are indeed related in a different sense.

Like some others on here, I have the 8 theme words (not including the 2 at 7D), and 16 clues where there are ignored letters (not including the unclued 19A)

Perhaps the setter made an error in the preamble?
