I must be thick today. I still can't see an answer to 6D. I thought the setter might be "me". Ooops, the penny has just dropped. I see it is part of the definition.

Like Brendan, I couldn't parse all of 4,12,23. I waited until I got 7 and 8d before deciding on 12ac.

I’ve recently returned to the Guardian crossword after an absence of more decades than seems feasible…

After a tortuous couple of weeks getting a few clues each day, I’m delighted to have completed today’s edition apart from 2d which has me baffled. Please could anyone cast any light?

18a - I can only recall seeing the spelling ending D but Chambers does give it without so no gripes:-)

2d - In Greek mythology, 14a is one of the nine ????? - surround that by 2 letter acronym for "the current era" and you have a word meaning "tickled by".
