Hi Neville,

14d - Yes. Team's goes around/'defending' 3 letter "shot" + 1 letter "ball" - definition is "Brazilian maestro".

23d - "gets permission" is 2,3 minus last letter/'drop back" - definition is "Man perhaps".

Hi Chris,

25a - "right" + 2 letter "wheels" then 6 letter "gets fuel" (current political hot potato) - definition is "supplements for vehicles"

All your letters are correct.

Thanks Chris, it was just one in a long line of first-rate clues - Picaroon's puzzles really stand out.

Another superb puzzle from Picaroon. I found this a real struggle at first, only had five after half an hour, but finished in two hours, which is very quick for me.
FOI 1d, LOI 27. So many great clues, but for COD I’ll go with 10 cos it made me laugh.
Many thanks to Picaroon.

Thank you Brendan and Jono - the maestro's still evading me but maybe I'll have a lightbulb moment later!

Thoroughly enjoyed this though I usually do with Picaroon. FOI 2, LOI 19 and can’t pick a COD as too many good. I was thrown for a while with 4d as I wanted it to start with ‘snare(d)’ but it was too short! Getting 1a soon put me right.
