Could well be you are indeed getting better, Simonh! Everyman is intended to be on the friendlier side. It’s how I got into cryptic crosswords and so hold a fondness for it.
Jazz, I agree, now I understand that clue, I rather like it.

Got 12 thanks to suggestions of Google but don’t understand it. Also 13 — understand the definition but can’t parse it. And finally, can’t parse 16.

12 is the name of a play and the name of a play that's been put on a lot. "Oh, that old ... "
13 There's only one film in crossword land :-), 2 letters, in the sound of a donkey.
16 follow the instructions in reverse to get a word for potato.

Well I thought this was harder than usual! Had to use the missing letters solver for 13, 14 and 24.

Can't really parse 6D either except it means "to brief".
