…in fact, looking at the definition in Chambers, “later” would be more appropriate than “late” I think

I had one missing and came to this forum as a last resort - only to shoot myself for not looking for the rhyming pair that even Brendan spotted! Got is easily then. Also assumed 19a was just an error on Everyman’s part.
I too was a big Ovett fan and loved his rivalry with Coe at the Moscow Olympics before Cram came along.

Thanks Jono, but I still don't get it I'm afraid. If the first four letters are 'capital', which is fine, that means the next 7 must be 'investments', which I suppose just about works too, if you split that into two words. But that means there's no actual definition of the answer in the clue doesn't it?

The "capital" refers to where you put them. "Investments" is somewhat whimsical!

Nice, Jazzy, I hadn’t picked up on that meaning of investments, I’m sure that’s what is intended

Hi all. Re 12d, how about you split it as 2,9 rather than 4,7.

After my hour was up had eight unsolved so looked them up.
I'm not convinced by the Spoonerism at 20a. Surely part of the second word is pronounced like "un" but to make the Spoonerism work it has to be pronounced like "eau"? (Hope that's not giving too much away) . That said I think I last solved a Spoonerism about five years ago -I never see them.
Can't see the investments in 12d
For 13d I thought a hunk of meat was more like a shish kebab than the answer.
Not very gruntled overall .
