For 12a I was initially thinking of a different sort of Reckoning, which confused me

I found this quite difficult, and ended up looking up 2d and 27a

I like cunning clues to words that are in most people's vocabulary, 27a is the exact opposite of this

I can guess 5d from the crossers and my guess sort of loosely fits the clue but can anyone give me a clue to the parsing?

A suspended project might be 5d. Wordplay is 1,4.

Coffindodger, if you're still with us, I think 5d parses as zero, another word for tidy, precise etc.

Thanks to Everyman. I found this much more difficult than the Everyman norm and really struggled.
FOI 1a, LOI 12
Liked 4, 15, 25, 1d. Thought 12 and 20 were somewhat questionable.

Thanks Chrise and Minno.
It is the synonym for neat that I thought questionable, but I live and learn!

I’m pretty sure 5D is a straight double definition.

Hope this is not a spoiler, but one relates to how you might take your scotch, the other to table, as a project.

Spinynorman1, yes, that’s also how I read it. It would be waste of good Scotch though, imho ;-)

I agree that it's quite hard this week. Re 27a, it helped that many of the streets on the estate across the road are named after types of the flying mammals concerned.
