After my hour alloted to this , I had about 2/3s completed and then looked up the rest. I would never have got 27a nor had I heard of 4d.
I rate it as a hard one .

I agree Loubyloo - also found this quite hard, and still stuck on a few at the top. Not got the spoonersim yet, nor the second word of the children's novel. Looking for some kind of anagram for that, but not seeing anything. Hints would be welcome!

Had to put the crossers of 27a into crossword solver - also would never have got it otherwise.

COD (so far!) is 25a.

Also stuck on 2d: Group stitching up conductors.

I was pretty sure all my crossers are correct, yet can't find any word that fits, so one of them must be wrong.

Just finished. LOI 16d where I originally had a different first word. 4d is a wonderful Roald Dahl creation. Made into a film too so quite well known.

Thanks for the hint for 2d Yevrah, but my latin is pretty much non-existent, so I will have to phone-a-friend! Good to know that my checkers are right though.

Now got 4d.

Can anyone help with the spoonerism at 12a? No-one else seems to have had a problem with that, so far!

Like julesvern I'm stuck on the spoonerism. Is it an Americanism?
