The current EV prints without a grid. I’ve contacted the Telegraph by email to ask for this to be fixed. If meantime anyone has found a workaround, please post!

Many thanks, Ginge. But, as you know, I got the same result from the .pdf, so the problem may be with my printer. If others are in the same boat, my wife came up with an alternative workaround. If you have a Press Reader account (most public libraries support PR for free) download the ST Sunday magazine, take a screen shot of the appropriate section of the page and print that. Worked for me, anyway.

I won't say too much about it but, given the discussions on them stopping publishing the EV, I thought the setter (Piccadilly) must have had it in mind when designing the end game. 😊

All done, but am I being stupid about 36 across? Full word has 8 letters, apparently, which means three of the same letter have to come out to fill the five cells- but the defined word only contains two of this letter.

Hi, mapledurwell. Are you sure you're "all done"? 1 of the cells used in 36a contributes to the 2 cells containing a single digit number mentioned in the preamble.

Quite right, Ginge, ‘all there’ isn’t quite accurate. I’ve found one of the single-digit number cells, but for the life of me can’t see how the other works in 36 across, or impacts on 30 down.
