4a Biblical Daniel.And a well hidden definition .

Finished, thanks to the hints for 4 and 8 (which I had the wrong first word for).

One of those coincidences between 4a and 22a in today’s Indie which seem to happen too often to be *just* coincidences. Same idea behind each clue, different homophones for the solutions.

Finally got a foothold in the SE corner thanks to Geoff….

I can't parse one of the answers:
3d) I have an item that a king or queen might wear.
I think there is a military abbreviation in there, but it is not the one I expected.

3d is a two letter abbreviation for soldiers (it crops up quite a lot in crosswords) followed by a three letter word for individual, all inside two letters for court

I was thinking along the lines of the last 3 letters = court

I vaguely thought there was a drug theme, eventually deciding the evidence wasn't strong enough. But that did lead me to write in an amusing wrong (by one character) answer to 5, only spotted when proofreading the filled grid. [I solve online but don't use the app.]

Made myself persevere to the end before coming here, and was surprised to read people's comments regarding difficulty. I certainly didn't find it easy, not by a long chalk, but I have found others in recent weeks to be far harder, and been completely unable to progress without the gentle hints and nudges on this great forum!

Hi everyone

I made myself read through all the clues before admitting defeat. I hadn't got a single one before coming here. I might have 3d now.

I spotted the cricketing reference in 26ac, but still couldn't solve it. I tried taking FR out of Boycott's first name, but that hasn't helped. Any hints for that one would help.

12ac I'm a huge Dickens fan, but my brain has gone into fudge territory. Which hero/book are we after. Once again a hint might turn my brain on.

Alternatively any hint for any clue that you think might help. Otherwise I shall give up.
