Look at "Variant spelling" here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espresso
Expresson is considered incorrect, but common.

Chambers has no snobbery value attached to Expresso, and says only 'same as espresso'.

I eventually got 42D & am now reduced to 1 viz -

8D - Herbicide used up in Kindergarten or uni lawns (4, 3)

L?N?R?N

The answer offered by Danword seems more likely to be 1 word, rather than 2. I favour LONG RUN as this is 2 words, but am open to correction.

Any better ideas?

PS Why does this Forum employ an American spellchecker?????

Bear, that answer is a very odd one! It's just reversed (well, up) in the clue...

It's definitely an error - should be (7)

Malone,

Thanks.

Backwards or forwards, it's not 2 words either way. I assume it's some kind of commercially available herbicide (not one of my stronger fields of expertise.)

Jolly poor bit of setting, I think.

Bear, thanks. I have to admit that I didn't check - earlier - whether it should be one word or two, I was just pleased to have spotted it!

Thanks, ChrisE.
