A hint as to the direction of the second name would be appreciated

The end of the passage that your across clues lead you to tells of A needing a partner to conjoin with.

I had already read that passage but I would like to know if the 10 letters go left to right, vertically or diagonally. I can't find the second name yet.

I know it's early in the week but am just about to settle down for the Rugby and am stuck. I've cold solved a lot of the clues and if I could get the 9 letter Monastery clue I'd start trying to fit them in. Could someone give me a (generous) hint please. The I'll carry on and Mrs Seal will be grateful to you for keeping me quiet.
