i can't fully parse 22a. how does "one page of annualybpublication " give the first two and last two letters?

After a bit of a slow start I found this relatively straightforward- getting the theme was a help! FOI:11A. LOI:2D (obvious, but I can’t parse it). COD:5D. Incidentally, I thought the answer to 8A is spelled with double S?

I've only seen a double S in 8a, but I assumed (without checking) that this is an alternative.

I had thought the weird spelling of 8 was there to get the last letter of a pangram in - but then realised there was no F - or Q ... so it had instead to be the first item in the theme.
